Bikes Rental

Renting a bike in Phuket is an excellent way to make your island adventure unforgettable. When you choose to rent a bike in Phuket, you gain access to many corners of the island. The most popular models here are Honda and Yamaha, divided into three classes:

  • Mini-scooters, designed for solo riders without passengers;
  • Midi-scooters, mid-range bikes with larger seats and wider tires;
  • Mini-scooters with large, soft seats and windshields for comfortable, long-distance rides.

Renting a scooter in Phuket offers freedom of movement, the chance to save on taxis and public transport, and a wealth of experiences. On a bike, you can visit major attractions, off-the-beaten-path beaches, viewpoints, temples, and nature reserves. Public transport in Phuket is limited, making a bike a true lifesaver for both travel and everyday tasks. You can rent a bike in Phuket almost anywhere, but we recommend sticking to trusted companies.

What You Need to Rent a Motorbike in Phuket

A passport valid for at least 6 months.
An international driving license with Category A. Category B is not accepted, and if stopped by the police you may receive a fine.
Age over 18. In some rental companies, motorbikes are rented only to people aged 21 and over.
A deposit. Important: never leave your passport as a deposit — only money. It will be returned if the bike is in good condition. The deposit amount usually depends on the model (the more powerful the bike, the higher the deposit).
Documents proving ownership of the bike. It’s better to ask the rental company for them for your peace of mind when dealing with the police. You can take photos of the documents and show them during inspections.

Since motorbikes are the most popular means of transportation in Thailand, the police most often stop tourists riding motorbikes. It’s important to stay calm and, above all, do everything possible to avoid problems. Read the main points in the article Traffic Rules in Phuket.

If you are stopped by the police, follow these rules:

Stop immediately
If you see a police signal, slow down and pull over right away. Do not try to ride away — it will only make the situation worse. Turn off the engine, take off your helmet, and show that you are calm and ready to communicate.

Smile and greet the officer
In Thailand, respect and friendliness go a long way. Even if you feel a little nervous inside, smile and say hello. This shows that you are not confrontational and that you respect local rules.

Present your documents
Show the full set of documents (it’s best to prepare them in advance): driving license, passport, bike documents or rental agreement, and insurance. Not having a valid license is the most common reason for fines. Fines usually range from 500 to 1,000 baht.

Do not argue or raise your voice
Even if you are sure you are right, avoid raising your voice. In Thailand, this is perceived as rude. A calm tone helps resolve the situation faster and with less stress. If the situation is disputable, you can contact the tourist police at 1155 (free call).

Pay fines only officially
A fine is always issued with a receipt. Usually, you will be directed to a police station or asked to pay at a mobile police booth on the spot. If someone offers to “settle it quietly” with cash and no paperwork, that is illegal. It’s better to follow the rules and avoid questionable offers.
