What You Need to Rent a Motorbike in Phuket
• A passport valid for at least 6 months.
• An international driving license with Category A. Category B is not accepted, and if stopped by the police you may receive a fine.
• Age over 18. In some rental companies, motorbikes are rented only to people aged 21 and over.
• A deposit. Important: never leave your passport as a deposit — only money. It will be returned if the bike is in good condition. The deposit amount usually depends on the model (the more powerful the bike, the higher the deposit).

• Stop immediately

• Smile and greet the officer
In Thailand, respect and friendliness go a long way. Even if you feel a little nervous inside, smile and say hello. This shows that you are not confrontational and that you respect local rules.
• Present your documents
Show the full set of documents (it’s best to prepare them in advance): driving license, passport, bike documents or rental agreement, and insurance. Not having a valid license is the most common reason for fines. Fines usually range from 500 to 1,000 baht.
