What to visit in Phi Phi

Phi Phi is an archipelago of six islands in Krabi province, a true paradise on Earth with turquoise water, white sand, and incredible exotic nature.

A trip to Phi Phi is a must-do on any tourist itinerary. You can join a tour (see more about this in the Excursions section), but if you’re planning an independent trip, this article is for you. We’ve already covered how to get to the Phi Phi Islands, and now we’ll tell you why it’s worth the journey. Spoiler: it’s definitely worth it!

Beaches

Long Beach

This beach is located on the southern part of Phi Phi Don Island, on the eastern side of Ton Sai Bay. Here, you’ll find all the main tourist infrastructure and the pier where boats from Phuket dock.

Long Beach

You can reach Long Beach by water taxi or kayak from Ton Sai Beach, or on foot along the coast in about half an hour, or through the island’s center in 40 minutes.

At the beach, you can swim, sunbathe, rent a kayak, go diving, enjoy a massage, or relax in a local restaurant with a beautiful view.

Monkey Beach

This beach is named aptly, as long-tailed macaques inhabit the area. It is located in a small bay surrounded by tall cliffs and lush tropical vegetation. The sand here is pure white, almost like snow.

Monkey Beach

The beach is wild – it’s the monkeys, not humans, who rule here. There are indeed quite a few of them on the island. Remember to take precautions: don’t feed the monkeys, don’t pick them up, and keep a close eye on your belongings; these quick animals won’t hesitate to snatch your phone or any food supplies.

Loh Dalum Beach

People come to this beach not so much for the beautiful views but for the lively parties. Lo Dalum is just a few minutes’ walk from the Ton Sai pier, and during the day, it’s a quiet, charming beach with well-developed infrastructure. The real excitement begins in the evening.

A popular bar on Loh Dalum

As the sun sets, Loh Dalum transforms into one big open-air dance floor. This spot is a true paradise for techno lovers. The best parties happen on the eastern side of the island, where all the bars are located.

Neighboring islands and bays

Maya Bay

Phi Phi Leh Island is located in the southern part of the archipelago, and its main attraction is Maya Bay. This spot became famous after the filming of the movie “The Beach”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Maya Bay

Phi Phi Leh is recognized as a protected area, and there is no tourist infrastructure here. The island is only open to visitors during the high season.

You can reach the bay as part of a tour or by taking a long-tail boat. Swimming in this protected area is prohibited, but you can take photos while standing ankle-deep in the water. Visiting the bay costs 400 baht per person.

Bamboo Island

This wild island is very small, measuring only 400 by 600 meters. In the middle, there is a stunning tropical forest with both leafy and pine trees. And, of course, the water and sand are impeccably clean.

Bamboo Island

You can only reach Bamboo Island by speedboat or boat. Most visitors come here as part of a tour to enjoy the incredible landscapes and solitude. You might also encounter some local residents – monitor lizards leisurely strolling around the island.

Pileh Bay

On Phi Phi Leh, there is another beautiful bay called the Blue Lagoon or Pileh Bay, located on the opposite side of Maya Bay.

Pileh Bay

The main advantage of this place is the absence of tourist crowds, with nature that is just as beautiful as in Maya Bay. Boats bring visitors to the bay and drop them off right in the water, at a depth of about one meter. The Blue Lagoon is surrounded by cliffs, creating a unique feeling of protection and intimacy.

Viking Cave

This attraction is also located on Phi Phi Leh. The cave, perched over the sea, is set in a limestone cliff. It got its name from ancient drawings of ships that resemble Viking vessels.

The cave vaults are inhabited by swiftlets, specifically the edible-nest swiftlets. These birds build nests using their saliva, and their creations are highly prized in Asian cuisine, considered a rare delicacy.

Phi Phi viewpoint

The viewpoint on Phi Phi offers an incredible view of the isthmus and the two beaches of Phi Phi Don – Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum. It is located in the mountains at an elevation of 186 meters above sea level. You can reach it by following the signs. The ascent involves a steep staircase, which can be quite challenging in the heat.

Phi Phi viewpoint

But the views from the viewpoint are worth every effort. From the Phi Phi viewpoint, you can enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. Entry to the area costs 30 baht per person.
