It is possible to ride a scooter with three people if it’s two adults and a child. However, a scooter is not designed to carry three adults — doing so violates traffic regulations. You’ll probably see many Thais riding with three or even four people on a scooter, but keep in mind they were practically “born on bikes” and have extensive experience handling them. We do not recommend trying to do the same.

If you choose to ride with a child as the third passenger, always follow these safety rules:

• Helmets for everyone – This is a must.
• Weight and balance – Scooters are designed for two people. With three, there’s a higher risk of tipping over, especially during braking and turns.
• Speed – Drive slowly and carefully. Avoid sudden movements.
