88 Asura Bar
88 Asura Bar is a small, no-frills spot in Patong tucked away on a quiet side street opposite Bangla Road, just a short walk from the main road. The setup is as simple as it gets: tables and chairs are placed right out on the street, making it easy to catch that classic “Thai evening” vibe — street food, warm atmosphere, and people around — without the constant rush of heavy traffic.
The food is straightforward, classic Thai, focused on familiar crowd-pleasers done properly. The pad thai is a standout, and dishes like tom yum (including tom yum with rice), fried sea bass, salmon, garlic pork, pork neck, and other staples come in generous portions and look neatly cooked and well presented. Spice levels are adjusted on request — from mild to genuinely hot. Portions are large, so if you don’t want to overdo it, it’s worth asking for a smaller size.
The bar side rounds out the menu with cocktails, well-chilled beer, and snacks. Prices are comfortable: a filling dinner often lands around 200–500 baht, depending on how many dishes you order.
Service is friendly and quick. They’re relaxed and welcoming with kids, and if something minor goes wrong, they sort it out without making a fuss. The only real trade-off is the street setting: it’s not the place for total quiet or privacy, and the space and “view” are fairly modest and intimate.
