One of the largest food markets in Phuket in a convenient central location is Banzaan Fresh Market. It is a two-story complex where, besides food, there are stalls with the classic assortment of goods of a Thai market: clothing, souvenirs, and other items. But many people come here specifically for gastronomic discoveries: you can buy the fresh products you like and then have them cooked for you at a café on the second floor.
Some people choose this place for a hearty and inexpensive breakfast — the market opens as early as 6 a.m. In the evening, the central building closes, and a lively night market with street food opens on the adjacent area. Fresh seafood, various types of meat, Thai desserts, fruits, and smoothies — everyone can find a dish to their taste. There are tables nearby, which you need to try to occupy: the place is popular and crowded.
The advantage of Banzaan is that it operates until midnight and is located near the hotels in the Patong area, making it convenient to visit both after the beach and late in the evening. There is plenty of parking around, and the location itself is considered one of the busiest on the island.
Tips for visiting:
- Bargain — you can reduce the price of products by 10–20%
- Walk around all the stalls — prices vary between vendors
- Come in the morning — everything is fresh and there are fewer people
- Bring small bills — there can be issues with change
- Don’t agree to the first price
- In the evening, seafood may be less fresh than in the morning
Several massage salons operate around the market (see the selection “Massage Salons in Patong”), and near the entrance there is a currency exchange with an average rate. Across the road, there are supermarkets.
