Mahasamutr Seaview Sunset Bar & Restaurant is a cozy, family-run spot set on a hillside near Ao Sane, built like a small terrace “house” perched right above the sea. From here you get sweeping views over Nai Harn, Yanui, and Promthep Cape — boats below, a cool ocean breeze, and one of Phuket’s most striking sunsets. It’s best to arrive 30–60 minutes before sunset and stay a little after; time disappears easily over a few drinks.
The décor is intentionally simple and rustic, with a laid-back vibe and Thai music in the background. The open-style roof can rattle on windy days. It’s a particularly family-friendly place: cats and rabbits wander around and are a big hit with kids. On the way to the restroom you might run into a feisty rooster — and the restroom itself is memorable for its unusual presentation.
Food here is straightforward, home-style Thai cooking at friendly prices, served in generous portions. The highlights are the seafood and pad thai (including a seafood version, and a vegetarian option on request). Other reliable choices include squid, tom yum, red curry, pineapple fried rice and classic fried rice, green mango salad, spicy salmon salad, black pepper crab, whole fried seabass with herbs, larb tod, and chicken “balls” as a snack. For dessert, people often go for mango sticky rice or coconut ice cream coated in chocolate. The bar serves cocktails (mojito, Mai Tai), smoothies, and coffee.
A few things to keep in mind: during peak hours the kitchen can be slow and wait times may stretch out. Car parking is limited, while arriving by motorbike is easier. Around sunset, mosquito repellent comes in handy.
