Tragedy in Khao Sok: a cave with tourists flooded during a tour

On August 6, a group of 22 people and 2 guides were exploring the Nam Talu cave near Cheow Lan Lake. Suddenly, water rushed into the cave from the mountains.

The tourists and one of the guides managed to escape. The second guide went missing. Unfortunately, on the morning of August 7, rescuers found his body.

Usually, the Nam Talu cave is closed for visits from June to November due to the risk of flooding. Why the guides ignored this fact is unknown.

Incidentally, this cave was already the site of a terrible flood in 2007, when 8 people died.

A similar tragedy is also depicted in the film “13 Lives” starring Colin Farrell, which is based on the true story of a Thai football team that went missing in a flooded cave.

Take care and avoid dangerous tours during the rainy season!
