9 Hornbills Tented Camp is an intimate glamping retreat near Phuket, set on the quiet island of Koh Yao Noi. It overlooks Phang Nga Bay, with limestone islets lining the horizon. This is the kind of place where it’s easy to switch off from plans and crowds: you’re surrounded by jungle, evening nature sounds and hornbills — and instead of a TV, you get sunrises and sunsets over the water.

Accommodation is centred around spacious tented villas with a private infinity pool and their own small courtyard. Inside, you’ll find wooden floors, tasteful furnishings, air conditioning, a comfortable bed with a mosquito net, and a full bathroom setup — complete with a bathtub with a view and an outdoor shower. Privacy is a real highlight, making it especially well-suited to couples, honeymoons, and anyone who values seclusion.

Service is quick and discreet: requests are handled via WhatsApp, and food is delivered to the villa promptly. Breakfast is included and served with bay views; once per stay, guests can enjoy a floating breakfast in the pool, and breakfast can also be set up at the table outside the villa. For dinner, it’s easy to take a buggy down to Koyao Island Resort (the properties share the same grounds), where you’ll find a restaurant, a beach, the main pool, massage services and a spa. Bicycles are provided for exploring the island, scooter rentals are available (including sidecar options), and boat trips to nearby islands and bays can be arranged.

A few things to keep in mind: the tents are set on a hillside, and the buggy service runs until late evening (after 10 pm, it’s best to plan the ride up in advance). There is construction in some nearby areas, and the island’s humid climate means keeping windows and curtains closed helps the air conditioning work effectively. As anywhere in the tropics, occasional encounters with local wildlife are also possible.
