Jadjan by Ko Daeng is a small roadside eatery in Phuket with a no-frills setup and an open kitchen where the owner-chef, Ko Daeng, cooks everything himself. Seating is usually outdoors — no air-conditioning and true southern heat — but you get a front-row view of the whole process, from the blazing wok to dishes served almost straight off the flame.
The menu focuses on bold Southern Thai flavors and wok cooking. Standouts include crab fried rice with an unmistakable wok aroma, crab cooked with curry or chili paste, garlicky seafood dishes, tom yum with shrimp and squid, and fish curries (including seabass). You’ll also find familiar classics like crispy pork with basil, stir-fried greens such as morning glory or kale/kai lan with meat, Hokkien noodles, and a minced-meat omelet. Portions are generous, flavors are punchy, and spice levels can be adjusted on request. The staff are happy to help you choose dishes and add-ons, and they speak English.
Despite being listed in the Michelin Guide, prices remain very down-to-earth. A few practical notes: popular items and ingredients can sell out by evening, and “sold out” signs aren’t uncommon — so it’s best to come early and expect short opening hours. Payment is cash only. During the hot season it can feel stuffy inside, and outdoor seating may come with a few flies.
