Ko Kaeo Lake in Phuket is a large, peaceful lake in the Koh Kaew area, directly opposite the British International School. The reservoir is long and narrow, widening into a few small bays in places. It’s surrounded by green banks, fruit trees, and open mountain views. The water often catches the light with a beautiful hue, and the air feels fresh and outdoorsy.
The main thing to do here is to walk or jog the loop trail around the lake. The wide path is comfortable for an easy stroll, light workouts, or a relaxed run — especially in the morning or later in the afternoon. Along the way you’ll find shady sections, and in the nearby fields you can sometimes spot cows and water buffalo grazing. It works well both for a quick escape and for a slow, unhurried break by the water.
The lake is also a great spot for a picnic and photos: there are places to sit, spread out a blanket, and enjoy some quiet away from the city. Evenings are particularly pleasant, when a cooler breeze picks up and the heat eases. From morning until midday, it can feel noticeably hot.
A few things to keep in mind: there are no lights, so it’s best visited while it’s still daylight. In the wooded area you may occasionally run into guard dogs that bark loudly. Some sections are sometimes closed off due to planting or farm work. Litter can appear from time to time, and development is slowly moving closer, which means fewer untouched natural corners than before.
