The Tavern

The Tavern is an English-style pub and restaurant in the Kata/Karon area of Phuket, tucked away in a quiet lane just off a busy street and only a short walk from Kata Beach. Inside, it’s calm and welcoming — people come here for an unhurried dinner, good conversation, and low-key background music. On match days, the big screens take center stage. If you’re with friends, there’s also a pool table and a characterful bar.

The menu sticks to what you’d expect from a proper pub, with a strong selection of Western comfort food alongside solid Thai classics. The standout is the Sunday roast: generous portions and meat cooked just right. Roast beef is a popular choice, and it’s worth booking ahead or pre-ordering (for example, the lamb shank) because the best items sell out quickly. For dessert, go for the apple crumble or the chocolate soft-serve. Drinks include a mango frozen daiquiri, cocktails, and ice-cold beer served in chilled glasses — alongside Chang, they also pour Beerlao.

Steaks are another highlight. Ribeye and other cuts come tender and juicy, the requested doneness is taken seriously, and you can choose a small side to go with your steak. You’ll also find fish and chips with homemade chips, steak pie, pork ribs and chops, curries, and seafood dishes, including a “seafood bucket.”

A couple of practical notes: it can feel a bit warm inside during the day, service may slow down during peak times, and it’s best to bring cash — cards aren’t accepted.
