How to find a job in Phuket

Working in Phuket has long been a topic surrounded by many myths and misconceptions. Some are convinced that it’s enough to simply arrive and get a job somewhere at a reception desk, while others believe that without knowledge of the Thai language and connections in the business environment, there is nothing to do here. There is also a third extreme: advertisements promising “high salary with no experience,” “paid flights,” and “international online centers,” which in reality turn out to be illegal call centers where people have their passports taken away.

To understand how the Thai job market actually works, what positions are available to foreigners, and how to search for jobs safely, we have compiled a detailed guide — with recommendations, examples of resources, life hacks, and potential pitfalls.

What jobs are available to foreigners in Thailand

Thailand’s labor laws strictly regulate the fields in which foreigners are allowed to work. Some professions are completely prohibited for hiring non-residents: working as a tour guide, certain positions in retail, manual labor, beauty services, massage, working as a driver, or as a clerk in a 7/11 shop — all of these are forbidden.

At the same time, there are also fully legal categories where foreigners are in demand.

International companies

The technology sector, hotel chains, IT development, marketing, advertising, consulting. These roles usually require English, experience, and motivation to relocate.

Education

English teachers are one of the most common professions among expats. The higher the qualifications, the better the conditions and salary.

Tourism sector (management, marketing, sales)

Not to be confused with tour guides — this profession is prohibited. However, marketers, SMM specialists, PR professionals, and managers working with foreign clients are in demand.

Starting your own business or partnering with a Thai company

It is possible to open a company, but there are restrictions on ownership structure for foreigners.

Where to look for a job in Thailand: the best platforms and groups

1. Official job search websites

A well-known job search website, with vacancies available in Phuket as well.

One of the largest international job aggregators. Many English-language opportunities.

A local job site that also has a category for foreign employees. Registration is required to search for vacancies.

2. Facebook groups

Many employers post job openings directly on Facebook. Here are some popular groups for job searching:

Tip: turn on notifications to receive new job postings as soon as they are published – good opportunities get taken quickly.

3. Telegram channels and chats

For example, t.me/vakansii_novosty and t.me/tailand_rabota. These are trusted resources, but it’s important to understand that Telegram is the riskiest environment for job hunting in Thailand. Scams are often encountered here.

How to check an employer

  • Check reviews of the company by name. Use Google, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Facebook. If there are no reviews at all, that’s a red flag.
  • Do not agree to travel to another city or country without understanding the details. Reputable companies clearly describe the working conditions, contract, document package, office address, and legal entity. If you are told only “come and we’ll explain everything,” it’s almost certainly a scam.
  • Work only with an official visa and Work Permit. This is the main legal safety criterion. Working without a permit is a direct path to deportation, huge fines, entry bans, and problems for the employer. A legitimate company will never offer you to “work temporarily without a permit.”

Thailand offers several categories of work visas, each suitable for different employment purposes. The main ones are:

  • Non-immigrant visas – the standard option for employment and business activities,
  • Smart Visa – designed for entrepreneurs and executives,
  • LTR visa – a long-term format for certain groups of highly skilled professionals.

Non-immigrant Work Visas

  • B category visa – the key option for employment, business activities, and internships.
  • IB visa – issued to business investors who invest in Thailand’s economy through the BOI.
  • M visa – suitable for media specialists: journalists, film crews, reporters.
  • R visa – granted to representatives of religious organizations and missionaries officially working in the country.
  • EX visa – intended for highly skilled professionals invited to Thailand as experts.
  • RS visa – an option for researchers, lecturers, and staff of scientific institutions.
  • F visa – issued to participants of official meetings with Thai government bodies, foreign states, or international organizations.

Obtaining any of these visas requires an invitation from a Thai company or organization, as well as documents confirming qualifications and professional experience.

Smart Visa

Designed for high-level professionals, entrepreneurs, executives, and investors working in one of the priority sectors:

  • Medical and wellness tourism,
  • Agriculture and biotechnology,
  • Robotics and automation,
  • Aviation and logistics,
  • Biofuels and biochemistry,
  • Digital technologies,
  • Environmental projects and renewable energy,
  • Science and technology,
  • “Future food” manufacturing,
  • Medicine,
  • Next-generation automotive industry,
  • Smart electronics.

LTR Visa

A long-term work and residence visa format, intended for living in Thailand for up to 10 years. It targets wealthy foreigners and several categories of professionals: remote employees of international companies, highly skilled professionals with high income, retirees, investors, as well as dependents of visa holders.

To obtain an LTR visa, applicants must meet several requirements: an annual income of at least $80,000, at least five years of verified work experience, and valid health insurance. For employees of government institutions, the minimum income requirement is not mandatory.

If you want to apply for one of the visas, we recommend contacting only trusted specialists

LTR Visa

We’ve selected the three best companies for LTR visa processing. Fill out the form, and we’ll forward your request — they’ll contact you to provide details on the terms and pricing.

How Much Do Foreigners Earn in Phuket

On average, professionals in Phuket earn around 60,000–120,000 baht per month.

  • For beginners and mid-level employees – for example, teachers or managers in the hotel industry – a typical income is 40,000–80,000 baht. Often, such offers already include bonuses like housing or allowances, which effectively increase the total income.
  • Higher salaries are earned by experienced specialists and executives. Hotel general managers, directors of international schools, or successful real estate agents can expect 150,000–300,000 baht per month and above. However, such positions are few, and competition for them is high.

Is It Possible to Look for a Job While in Thailand

Yes, many people arrive on a tourist visa, attend interviews, and change their visa type later. However, you should remember that officially you cannot work until your documents are in order, and some companies prefer candidates who are already in the country – it makes interviews easier to arrange.

How to Increase Your Chances of Getting a Job

  • Update your LinkedIn profile and CV in an international format.
  • Create a professional CV in English.
  • Prepare a portfolio (if you are a marketer, designer, or SMM specialist).
  • Highlight experience working with international clients.
  • Learn at least basic phrases in Thai – it’s always a plus.
  • Interviews are conducted online – prepare good equipment.
  • Focus on companies with real offices and a proven track record.

The main principle: your safety is more important than quick money. If an offer seems too good to be true, it’s best to refuse it.

Finding a job in Phuket is possible, but the labor market here requires caution, knowledge of the law, and attention to detail.

Use reliable platforms (Indeed, LinkedIn, Facebook groups), check employers, obtain official visas – and working in Phuket can become a real and safe step into your new life.
