In bar culture, there are whole rules for combining drinks, and not all combinations are acceptable — both from a taste perspective and how they affect your well-being. The golden rule: don’t mix things that structurally conflict, such as dairy + acidic, sweet + heavy, or carbonated + too strong.
What is best avoided:
- Different types of strong alcohol in large amounts: this is a heavy load on the body.
- Strong alcohol + energy drinks: a big strain on the heart.
- Creamy/dairy liqueurs with acidic juices/citrus: the cream curdles, and the cocktail gets an unpleasant texture.
- Coffee drinks with heavy alcohol not according to recipe, for example, espresso + tequila.
