Tennis and Padel in Phuket: Where to Play, Best Clubs, Rentals, Tournaments, and Tips

Phuket is no longer just a beach resort – it has become a true mecca for active lifestyle enthusiasts. The island is quickly turning into the sports capital of southern Thailand. On our website, you’ll find a dedicated Sports Sections section featuring football, basketball and volleyball courts, gyms, dance and yoga studios, martial arts, and more. And standing out on this list are tennis and padel. These two have absolutely exploded in popularity in recent years, especially in places like Phuket.

In this guide, we’ve gathered everything you need to know:

  • Where to play tennis and padel
  • Where to rent rackets or book a lesson
  • How to find partners to play with
  • And how to combine sport with that holiday vibe

A Little Theory

Tennis – the classic game. The goal is to win rallies by sending the ball over the net so your opponent can’t return it. It’s played on a large court, either one-on-one (singles) or two-on-two (doubles). Serves must be made diagonally into the service box, and the ball can only bounce once before being returned.

Padel – a mix of tennis and squash. The objective is the same as in tennis, but with the added twist of playing off the walls. It’s always doubles, on a much smaller court enclosed with glass and metal walls. The rackets are stringless, shorter, and lighter, and the ball is similar to a tennis ball but with slightly lower pressure. Shots can rebound off the walls (like in squash) after the first bounce.

In short: tennis is more about power, endurance, and achievement, while padel is about agility, teamwork, and fun.

Where to Buy or Rent Rackets

This is really not a problem – in many clubs, rackets are available for rent or even included free with court rental.

If you’d like to have your own personal set, sports stores can be found in major shopping centers such as Central Festival, Jungceylon, and others. You can check our Shopping Malls section to choose the most convenient location.

Many venues with courts also have their own pro shops, where you can buy everything you need on-site.

Best Time to Play

If you’ve chosen an outdoor court, keep in mind that the most comfortable hours for practice are in the morning from 7:00 to 9:30 AM or in the evening after 4:30 PM – when the heat eases and the light is no longer so harsh.

At clubs with covered or air-conditioned courts, you can play in comfort at any time of day.

How to Join Games and Find Playing Partners

Phuket is home to the Thailand Tennis Tour (TTT) – a fast-growing tennis league created by players, for players. It began as the Tennis League of Phuket, founded in 2019 by David Martin, an experienced player well-known in the local tennis community. Today, it’s a multi-city league network with several branches across Thailand.

The Thailand Tennis Tour helps players of all levels find partners, take part in ranking matches and tournaments, and everything is organized through a simple system: register, get access to the player list, arrange matches, and start earning points for the overall ranking. It’s a fantastic way not only to play regularly but also to become part of Phuket’s active tennis community.

You can also find partners for tennis and padel through social media – for example, by searching for Telegram groups like “Phuket Tennis” or “Phuket Padel.” And of course, the easiest way is simply to show up at a court and connect with the local community. Many venues have their own chats where you can find a partner for a match – or even join casual meet-ups at a cafe afterwards.

Want to add some sports to your vacation? Tennis and padel in Phuket are a perfect choice. And if you stay here a little longer, you might not only find new playing partners but also new friends.

Other venues can be found in our Sports Sections selection. If you’re a fan of trekking and hiking, check out our Walkways collection and pick a trail. And if you’re into extreme sports, don’t forget about Insurance.
