The Best Viewpoints in Phuket: Where to Go for Stunning Views
Phuket hit the nature jackpot – it’s been generously gifted, and one of its standout features is its incredible viewpoints. There’s something for everyone here: ocean views, jungle landscapes, sunsets, and Buddhist temples. We’ve gathered Phuket’s top viewpoints in one guide so you can enjoy the island from above (and take a few thousand photos, of course!).
Let’s start with a classic. At the top of Nakkerd Hill sits the Big Buddha – almost 45 meters tall. The view from here is absolutely grand: you can see Chalong, Karon, and even a bit of Kata. The atmosphere is serene – it’s quiet, with chirping cicadas and the scent of incense in the air.
However, the road to the Big Buddha is currently closed due to landslide damage in 2024. But we’ve scouted out a nearby viewpoint with equally stunning views. Here’s the
One of the most popular spots – and for good reason. From this viewpoint, you can see three beaches at once: Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon. It’s a postcard-perfect scene – palm trees, turquoise water, and white sand. An ideal place to snap a photo with all of Phuket in the background. Plus, drone flights are allowed here, so if you’re after awesome content – this is the place!
The most photogenic sunset on the island – right here! In the evening, half of Phuket gathers at Promthep Cape to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Yes, it can get crowded, but the atmosphere is still absolutely captivating.
You can follow a small path down the hill – it’s less crowded there, and the views are even more stunning. We recommend bringing a mat or blanket – it’s more comfortable to sit on, and it adds a touch of romance.
Another well-known viewpoint located near Promthep Cape. From here, you get a stunning view of Yanui Beach and Nai Harn Bay. The wind turbine isn’t just for show – it’s fully functional. Despite its popularity, this spot is usually less crowded, offering a peaceful escape.
We recommend coming closer to the evening, when the heat eases up – that way, you can enjoy the view both in daylight and after sunset.
This viewpoint is hidden in the jungle above Nai Harn Beach and offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of southern Phuket: Promthep Cape, Yanui and Nai Harn beaches, and distant islands. What’s at the top? A smooth rock surface with a stunning view – and almost no tourists. If you’re lucky, you might have the whole place to yourself.
Okay, technically this one’s on the mainland – but it’s just an hour’s drive from Phuket. The viewpoint overlooks Phang Nga Bay – yes, the same one featured in the James Bond movie. The limestone cliffs rising from the water look like something out of a painting. It’s best to go at sunrise – the views are pure magic!
This isn’t one of the most well-known spots among tourists – and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s located above Kata Noi Beach, one of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches in the south of the island. There are no huge parking lots or tourist buses here. Most of the time, it’s just you and maybe a couple of other people with cameras. There’s also a cafe nearby, making sunset watching even more enjoyable.
This viewpoint is a great choice if you’re looking to see the island from a fresh and unexpected angle. There are no tourist crowds or hustle and bustle here, and from the top you get a sweeping 360-degree view of Chalong Bay, the islands off the east coast, the hills of central Phuket, and even the Big Buddha in the distance.
Although it’s not the most popular spot, it still has all the essentials: restrooms, benches, and parking.
If you’ve ever driven along the west coast between Surin and Kamala beaches, chances are you’ve sped past one of the most photogenic views in Phuket. It’s a real hidden gem for those who appreciate seclusion, greenery, and postcard-perfect scenery.
The viewpoint is located right by the roadside – but just a few steps away, and you’re standing above a lush green bay with Laem Sing Beach sparkling below. Tucked between the cliffs, it looks from above like a slice of paradise untouched by tour agencies.
A viewpoint with an urban vibe – perfect for when you want to feel that Phuket is more than just beaches; it’s a place with real life and character. Khao Rang is a hill in the center of the island, near Phuket Town. From here, you get a panoramic view of the city, the bay, and distant mountains. On a clear day, you can even see a bit of the east coast and Chalong Bay.
The atmosphere here isn’t your typical seaside feel – it’s more urban. There’s a viewing terrace with gazebos and benches, a monument to Admiral Phra Yaomarat (the island’s first governor), a park with walking trails, and lots of monkeys. Be careful around them – check out our article Monkeys in Phuket to learn more.
Helpful tips for visiting viewpoints

- Sun protection: a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are a must – the Phuket sun is relentless.
- Water: bring a bottle with you – you might not find vending machines or shops nearby.
- Drone: great idea, but always check if flying is allowed in that specific area.
