Walking Spots in Phuket

Phuket is not just about the sea, beaches, excursions, and entertainment. The island offers many spots for peaceful walks, outdoor runs, and quiet relaxation. We’ve compiled a list of the best locations in Phuket where you can stroll with music in your headphones, ride a bike, do some fitness activities, or simply enjoy the beauty of the island’s nature.

Rama IX Park

Rama IX Park is located in the southern part of the island. It was inaugurated in 1990 to celebrate the 60th birthday of Thailand’s King Rama IX and has since become a significant spot for leisure and cultural events in Phuket.

Rama IX Park

The park covers an area of about 60 hectares. Here, you can see a variety of plants, including exotic flowers and rare tropical trees. The park features well-maintained gardens, a lotus pond, an orchid garden, and several small waterfalls.

You’ll often come across active lifestyle enthusiasts here: the park has several sports fields, tennis courts, running tracks, and fitness zones. You can also rent a bicycle. For children, there are designated playgrounds.

The lake, surrounded by green hills, creates an atmosphere of seclusion and tranquility, making it perfect for walks, sports activities, and picnics.

Saphan Hin Park

A quiet green oasis in the bustling Phuket Town. This park is a popular spot for relaxation, featuring jogging and cycling paths, a fitness center, a stadium, and outdoor gym equipment. Saphan Hin Park is located right by the seashore: swimming in this area is inconvenient due to the rocky bottom and strong tides, but an evening walk along the sea is a wonderful choice.

Saphan Hin Park

Near the park, you can find a Buddhist Chinese temple and a mangrove forest conservation center. The park also houses a museum dedicated to the founder of the Thai Royal Navy, as well as fragments of military ships on display.

Another notable area of the park is the Saphan Hin Mangrove Walkway. This beautiful pedestrian bridge stretches through the mangrove forest. Even during the day, it remains cool and shaded, making it the perfect place to escape the midday heat.

Sirinat National Park

A gem of Phuket’s northwestern coast, Sirinat National Park was established in 1981 and covers approximately 22 square kilometers of land and 68 square kilometers of water. It is a protected reserve, with its boundaries extending both on land and at sea, as not only plants and animals but also coral reefs require conservation. The easiest way to reach Sirinat Park is from Nai Yang Beach.

Sirinat National Park

The park features beaches with pristine white sand, mangrove forests, and spots offering views of planes landing at Phuket Airport. One of the park’s main attractions is its giant trees with their impressive and intricate root systems. In the dense forest of Sirinat, you might encounter monitor lizards, mangrove snakes, and crabs, but the national park was primarily established to preserve the habitat of endangered sea turtles.

Sirinat National Park is a true oasis of tranquility and untouched nature, where you can wander for hours, exploring the rare features of the local flora and fauna.

Cape Krathing

This is a hike for the well-prepared, with a stunning view as your reward. A short walk will take about 45 minutes, while a full loop hike will take around two hours.

Cape Krathing

The most adventurous make their way to the cape from Nai Harn Beach. The route begins with navigating rocks along the shore, followed by a climb up barely visible trails overgrown with grass. The paths can be slippery, so trekking poles might come in handy. Descending back to the sea requires more effort than the climb. Be cautious and assess your ability to navigate the occasionally slippery slope.

A safer route starts from the stunning Black Rock viewpoint. You can drive there and then continue on foot along a gravel road.
