Weather in Phuket

Phuket is located just 872 km north of the equator, offering year-round warmth thanks to its tropical monsoon climate. It’s always summer here! Air temperatures vary only slightly depending on the season: in winter, they range from +28°C to +30°C, in spring (April-May) they rise to +32°C to +34°C, and in summer and autumn they hover around +30°C. Nighttime temperatures are only 3-4 degrees cooler than daytime.

Warm Seas Year-Round

The average sea temperature in Phuket remains around +27°C, making swimming possible at any time of year. Even during the monsoon season, you can enjoy the warm sea and beautiful beaches.

Two Seasons: When is the Best Time to Visit?

Phuket distinctly experiences two seasons: the low (wet) season and the high (dry) season. You can choose the time of your trip depending on your preferences.

Low Season (May – October). During this period, the island comes under the influence of monsoons, bringing brief but frequent rains. However, this does not mean it rains every day. Many days can still be clear, with air temperatures around +32°C. The heaviest rainfall occurs in June and September, and the sea becomes more turbulent. It’s also important to be mindful of rip currents, which are indicated by red flags or signs on the beaches. During this season, tides are frequent, so it’s essential to check tide schedules using specialized apps, which we covered in the “Must-have Apps” section.

High Season (November – April). This is the perfect time for a holiday. Excessive humidity decreases, the sky becomes clear, and the sea is calm and clean. November may still see occasional brief showers, but they usually occur at night. By December, paradise begins for sun lovers: temperatures rise to +35°C, and the sea becomes crystal-clear and warm, creating ideal conditions for swimming, diving, and excursions. The hottest period is in March and April, when water temperatures reach +30°C. Some may find these conditions too intense and prefer the less extreme heat of the low season.

The difference in sea conditions between high and low season:

Travel in Comfort. The weather in Phuket, despite its variations, always remains pleasant for a holiday. Everyone can find their own advantages in both the high and low seasons. For example, if you’re interested in surfing, the low season might be a better fit for you. You can read more about this in our article on Surfing.
