Where to Buy Russian Products in Phuket
Phuket has long been home to thousands of Russian-speaking expats and one of the favorite destinations for wintering. But even on a paradise island, sometimes you want something familiar: buckwheat, cottage cheese, kvass, dumplings, and bread that feels “normal” to a European person.
Where in Phuket can you find the products you are used to in Russia and the CIS countries, and which stores in Phuket offer a really good selection – let’s figure it out in this article.
1. Izbyonka
A small shop with Russian products in the Mai Khao area. You can see the full assortment on the store’s website. Sausages, hot dogs, sauces, canned food (from mackerel to green peas) – all from well-known and beloved brands.
Moms, take note – they even have baby puree “Fruto Nyanya.” Plus kefir (almost a unique find for Phuket!) and many other dairy products, as well as fresh bread, grains (buckwheat, oatmeal, etc.), ready-to-cook products, sweets (maybe you’ve missed “Alenka” chocolate?), and much more. If you’re looking for something Russian – you’ll most likely find it here (even pickled tomatoes!).
2. FFF – Food For Foreigners
Farangs (that’s what Thais call foreigners) know where to find “their” products. FFF – Food For Foreigners – is a large store in Rawai with imported goods, where you can also find Russian products. There is even a separate category for them on the store’s website. By the way, you can also order delivery if you don’t feel like going to Rawai.
On the shelves – dumplings and varenyky (from Russian brands) and other frozen foods, a wide selection of cheeses, grains, various sauces, pickles, and sweets. And sometimes they even bring in red caviar here – so around New Year’s, feel free to storm FFF – Food For Foreigners!
3. Silena Food Bistro
Russian expats definitely know where to find their favorite sweets in Phuket – wafer rolls and “nuts” with condensed milk, curd snacks, and cream pastries. At Silena Food Bistro! They also make custom cakes here – keep that in mind if you need a familiar dessert for a festive table.
In addition to desserts, they sell dumplings, cottage cheese, bread, pickles, canned goods, and other products. There are also ready meals, for example salads: admit it, have you missed the taste of New Year – herring under a fur coat and Olivier? The shop has a couple of tables – you can try the local delicacies right on the spot.
4. Papaya Mini-Mart
A real find for Russian-speaking residents of the Nai Harn area. There are plenty of dairy products (including kefir and cottage cheese), dumplings, and other frozen items (like syrniki). Sometimes you can even find true “exotics” – kholodets! Prices, of course, are not the lowest, but the nostalgic taste of kholodets is worth paying a little extra.
The store also has a counter with ready-made dishes – here you will find Olivier, herring under a fur coat, pancakes, and much more, while those with a sweet tooth will be pleased with their favorite desserts. You can also order coffee here.
5. Panama Market
At first glance, it’s not immediately clear that food is sold here. But appearances can be deceiving: in these small shops, there is an excellent selection of Russian products! Everything you need: grains, ready-to-cook items, pickles, canned goods, kefir, and sour cream. A note for parents – children’s products from Russian brands are also available. Unfortunately, the only thing that won’t make you happy are the prices.
In addition, the store even has a small area where you can have lunch with ready-made dishes: there are salads, soups, and hot meals.
6. Daily Food
Small but mighty: in this little shop there is a huge assortment of Russian products. They even have the much-loved Borodinsky bread! Also sausages, dairy products, pickles, sunflower seeds, sauces, grains, and other foods familiar to Russians. Yes, the prices are unlikely to please as much as the assortment, but life on an exotic island has its downsides.
7. Russian Products Russian food
The name of this store speaks for itself. Everything is to the point here: kefir, cottage cheese, sour cream, varenyky, dumplings, cutlets, jam, and sauerkraut.
The store is small, and the assortment changes depending on deliveries, so we can’t give a 100% guarantee that everything listed will always be on the shelves. But if you live in Chalong, you should definitely drop by for fresh kefir and cottage cheese.
8. Captain Surin
Residents of the Surin area are lucky – they have Captain Surin right nearby. A compact shop with a good selection of “our” products: homemade-style dumplings and varenyky, dairy products, grains, herring, and boiled sausage… and sometimes even red caviar! And if you’ve been missing some cold kvass, now you know where to find it.
Important for parents: Captain Surin has a good selection of baby food from various Russian brands (Fruto Nyanya, Tyoma).
Russian entrepreneurs have also firmly established themselves in Phuket’s restaurant market. More and more Russian cuisine cafes and restaurants are appearing on the island. Some have even launched their own dairy production and make cottage cheese and kefir themselves.
The places where you can try solyanka, fried potatoes with mushrooms, pies, and blini we have gathered in the section Russian Cuisine in Phuket.
