At what time are there usually traffic jams in Phuket?
Insider's Response
It cannot be said that Phuket has big problems with traffic, but at certain times it is indeed better to avoid being on the roads. Road congestion depends on the season: during the high season, routes along the beaches are more crowded than usual.
Morning. Locals go to work and take children to school. The main traffic jams occur from 7:30 to 9:30. At this time, the roads from the airport to the beaches and towards Phuket Town are especially congested. In the evening, a new wave builds up, approximately from 16:00 to 18:00, and sometimes until 19:00, especially on the main routes from Chalong, Patong, and Bang Tao to the center.
There are sections where traffic jams are the norm. For example, the Bypass Road in the center of the island. At the traffic lights you can stand for a long time, regardless of whether you are going to the airport or coming from it.
On the serpentines leading to the beaches there are also often traffic jams, especially in Patong. At midday, traffic jams can also occur: from 11:00 to 12:00 you can get stuck on the central roads towards the airport, but this situation occurs less often.
