Question

From what amount can you pay by bank card in 7-Eleven stores?

Insider's Response

In 7-Eleven, bank cards are accepted for purchases starting from 200 baht — smaller amounts can be paid only in cash. Those are the rules.

Here are a few other cashless payment options:

Credit and debit cards. Foreign Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards are accepted for purchases from 200 baht. Unfortunately, cards issued by Russian banks are under sanctions, and at the moment only UnionPay cards from Rosselkhozbank work.

Apple Pay and Google Pay. Although Thai banks still do not support Apple Pay, iPhone owners from countries where this service operates can use it to pay in 7-Eleven. The process is exactly the same as with a contactless card, but the minimum purchase is still 200 baht. Google Pay works.

E-wallets. In Thailand, the TrueMoney Wallet app is available. You can register with a Thai SIM card and an ID. It’s simple: open the TrueMoney Wallet app, confirm the payment with a code, and tap “Pay.” The cashier scans the generated QR code, and the money is debited from your card. This option is convenient for those who live on the island permanently.

Mobile banking apps. In some 7-Eleven stores, there are QR codes at the checkout that can be scanned via the PromptPay app — Thailand’s national payment system. This method is available only to holders of Thai bank cards. If you live in Thailand long-term on a visa, you can open a local bank account and use this payment method.
