Koh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket. The distance between the two islands is about 270 km. The fastest way to get to Samui is by plane, with a flight time of just 55 minutes. Bangkok Airways operates direct flights. Ticket prices are around 3,700 THB per person on average.
You can also get from Phuket to Samui by ferry from Rassada Pier. The first ferry departs at 8:30 AM and arrives in Samui at 4:00 PM. The entire trip takes about 8 hours. Yes, it’s a long journey, but beautiful sea views will accompany you the whole way — so you could think of it as a scenic day tour.
How long does it take to drive from Phuket to Samui? The most convenient option is to rent a car (read more in our Car Rental section). The drive from Phuket to Donsak Pier takes about 4–5 hours, followed by a ferry crossing. For an extra fee, you can take your car on the ferry with you.
