Question

How many airports are there in Phuket?

Insider's Response

Phuket has only one airport – Phuket International Airport (HKT) – which is one of the busiest in Thailand, as it serves both domestic and international flights. The airport is located in the north of the island, in the Mai Khao area, but it’s easy to reach the main tourist areas from there. You can read here about the available transport options from the airport.

The airport has two terminals: the new one handles international flights, while the older terminal serves domestic routes. Most travelers will be using the international terminal. Upon arrival, you’ll enter on the second floor, as that’s where the jet bridges connect to the planes. Here, you’ll go through passport control and collect your baggage.

After clearing formalities, you’ll arrive at the first floor — a large hall with ATMs, currency exchange booths, and mobile service counters. The exchange rate at the airport is fairly reasonable, though it’s usually better to exchange money in the city. For the best places, check our Money Exchange section.

You can explore the airport, visit souvenir shops and duty-free stores. One important detail: most shops operate from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. On the third floor, there’s also a 7/11 convenience store with snacks and essential goods.

So, if you’re wondering how many airports there are in Phuket — the answer is just one. No need to worry about getting lost.
