How many beaches are there in Phuket?
Insider's Response
The island is almost completely surrounded by beaches, which is why Phuket is often called a tropical paradise. You can spend a long time exploring the coastline—there are beach clubs with cocktails and music, wild untouched beaches, and hidden coves.
Most of the beaches are located on the island’s west coast. That’s also where you’ll find the most popular ones, with sun loungers, jet skis, and street vendors. This is the side of the island where you’ll catch the most stunning sunsets, with the sun dipping right into the sea.
In the north, the beaches are more spacious and less crowded. The south has lots of coves, winding hill paths, and hidden spots. One of them — Promthep Cape Beach — we wrote about here.
The east coast isn’t suitable for swimming due to strong tides. It’s mainly home to fishing villages and ports where you can catch boats to nearby islands.
So how many beaches are there in Phuket? Officially, around 30. The most popular tourist beaches and secluded ones are featured in our Beaches section. But if you dig a little deeper, the number goes well beyond 50. Wild beaches are often found in remote spots, reachable only by boat or narrow jungle trails. They don’t have loungers or facilities, but they offer total peace — perfect for solitude or a photoshoot. We’ve collected the best of those here.
During the low season, our list of wave-free beaches will be especially useful. And always remember: safety first!
