Question

How much does a taxi cost in Phuket?

Insider's Response

In Phuket, you can hail a taxi on the street with a wave of your hand, but the price is unlikely to please you – it’s completely random. It often happens that you agree on a price with the driver, only to find out at the end that the ride costs significantly more.

A more reliable option is to use taxi apps – read more about them here. Bolt, Grab, and InDrive operate in Phuket. Make sure to download these apps in advance. You can learn about other useful apps in the article Must-Have Apps.

Here’s an example of how much a taxi costs in Phuket from the airport to the island’s tourist areas. Only Grab is allowed to enter the airport premises, so rides with Grab will cost slightly more than other services – on average, around $30. Taxis via InDrive and Bolt tend to be a bit cheaper, but you’ll need to walk about 300 meters to the pickup point. This kind of trip usually costs around $20.

A small detail we must mention: sometimes drivers may simply ignore your request if the pickup is too far or not profitable for them. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do – it’s just how things work with local taxi drivers. If your trip is time-sensitive, Bolt offers the option to schedule a ride in advance for a specific date and time.
