Question

How much does beer cost in Phuket?

Insider's Response

There are three main local beer brands in Thailand:

  • Singha – one of the most well-known brands, established back in 1933. Its name translates from Sanskrit as “lion,” which is also depicted in the logo.
  • Chang – another popular beer brand, launched in 1995. The name means “elephant,” a sacred animal in Thailand.
  • Leo – a more affordable option, with quality close to Singha.

In 7/11 or Big C supermarkets, a 0.33–0.5 liter bottle or can of local beer costs approximately: Singha – 45–55 THB, Leo – 35–50 THB, Chang – 33–48 THB.

Imported beers (like Heineken, Hoegaarden) are more expensive – from 45 to 100 THB per bottle, depending on the size. Thailand supports its local brands and imposes up to 60% tax on imported beer.

If you’re wondering how much beer costs in Phuket bars and restaurants, be ready to pay up to twice the store price. The closer to the beach, the more expensive it gets. Local beer in bars typically starts at 80 THB, while imported beer may cost 100–140 THB or more, especially in upscale venues.

Keep in mind that Thailand has restrictions on alcohol sales. In all supermarkets, alcohol is sold only between 11:00 AM–2:00 PM and 5:00 PM–12:00 AM.
