Question

How safe is it to regularly do border runs and return to Phuket? Or is it better to get a long-term visa?

Insider's Response

Of course, having legal status in Phuket is the safer option. One of the most convenient ways is the DTV visa. The Digital Nomad Visa is available for those who want to study culinary arts or martial arts in Thailand, as well as freelancers, remote workers, and business owners. The DTV visa is valid for 5 years, with an initial 180-day stamp in your passport. It’s a great option for legal stay for the whole family — spouses and children can be included under the digital nomad visa. We recommend applying through trusted agencies; more details can be found on the Easythai DTV visa page.

A tourist visa can be issued for 60 days and extended for another 30 days, but after that, a visa run out of the country is required for further extension.

Independent border runs are now viewed with some caution. There is a chance you may be denied entry, especially if you’ve extended your stay this way before. It’s better to use companies that organize one-day border run trips. You can submit a request in the Border Run section on our website.
