Is Thai massage painful?
Insider's Response
Traditional Thai massage is something between massage, yoga, and acupressure. During the session, the therapist arranges your body in various poses similar to asanas. Traditional Thai massage doesn’t use oils, and all movements are performed through clothing.
If the therapist is skilled, the massage shouldn’t be too painful. You might experience some discomfort at certain moments, but everything is individual. Before beginning the session, they usually offer several intensity levels – if you’re not ready to endure discomfort, choose a lighter option. You’ll likely feel the effects the next day – as if you went to strength training after a long break.
