Until what time do buses run in Phuket?
Insider's Response
Public transport in Phuket can be confusing. Local buses have complicated routes that are hard for tourists to understand, and schedules are often not strictly followed. We covered public transport on the island in detail here.
Buses to/from the airport
Airport buses usually keep to their schedules and are more punctual. Here is the current timetable:
- Smart Bus
Route: Airport – Rawai Beach (final stop)
Operating hours: 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM (Full schedule available on the official website — enable automatic translation) - Phuket Bus Express
Route: Airport – Patong and Kata beaches
Operating hours: 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM (departures every hour) - Minibuses at the airport
Route: Airport – Karon, Phuket, and Kata beaches
Operating hours: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (departures when full)
Please note that schedules often depend on the season.
City routes
Songthaews
The authentic local transport is essentially an open-back pickup truck with benches. Songthaews run roughly from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM with about 15-minute intervals, but keep in mind the schedule is informal, and you may sometimes have to wait for a bus.
Popular routes for tourists:
Blue Songthaews:
From Phuket Town to tourist areas and beaches:
- Patong
- Kata and Karon
- Kamala, Surin, and Bang Tao
- Nai Harn and Rawai
