What’s the Situation with Medicine in Phuket? Are There Russian Drug Equivalents?
Insider's Response
In Phuket — and Thailand in general — you can find equivalents to most Russian medications, though under different brand names. What matters is knowing the active ingredient, or the international non-proprietary name. For example, the active ingredient in No-Spa is drotaverine, and in Nurofen it’s ibuprofen.
You don’t need to pack a full medical kit — most basic meds are sold even in 7/11 convenience stores. There, you’ll also find local remedies for various issues like cough syrup, inhalers, activated charcoal, fever reducers, heartburn relief, and more. We wrote more about over-the-counter medications in supermarkets in a separate article. A more detailed version with photos of the medicines is in our Thai Pharmacy piece. Overall, Thai pharmaceuticals are high quality, and there’s no reason not to trust them. Hopefully, you won’t need a pharmacy in Phuket — stay healthy!
