Question

What’s the temperature in Phuket?

Insider's Response

Phuket is warm all year round, regardless of the season. The island is located 872 km north of the equator and has a tropical monsoon climate, which means it’s basically summer year-round. Temperature fluctuations throughout the year are minimal. In winter, the temperature ranges from +28°C to +30°C; in April–May, it rises to +32°C–34°C; in summer and autumn, it stays around +30°C. At night, it may be 3–4 degrees cooler.

Humidity in Thailand is usually around 70–90%, especially during the monsoon (low season). The average sea temperature is +27°C and remains stable year-round.

The low season runs from May to October. During this time, the island is influenced by monsoons, which bring frequent but short rain showers. The sea can be rough, but there are wave-free beaches where you can swim comfortably all year. Warning flags are placed on beaches to indicate dangerous conditions — read our article and don’t ignore the signs. Also, learn about rip currents, which are more common during this season.

The high season lasts from November to April — it’s the best time to visit. The weather becomes drier, humidity decreases, the skies are clear and sunny almost every day, and the sea is warm and calm.
