Kathu Herb Sauna is a simple yet atmospheric sauna in the Kathu area, tucked away in lush greenery. It’s surprisingly quiet here: instead of city noise you get trees, birds, and a real “in the woods” feeling. The grounds are spacious enough to stretch out in the lounge area and properly slow down.
The highlight is the herbal steam room with very humid, hammam-like steam. The herbs are simmered beforehand, creating a rich aroma that sometimes carries a faint smoky note. Heat levels can vary, but on a good day the steam is dense and clings to the skin, opening pores and warming you through. There’s only one steam room and it’s small (roughly up to 9 people), so evenings can feel crowded.
After steaming, you can cool off in outdoor cold plunge tubs. There’s a cool mini-pool in the shade and colder options if you want a stronger contrast — refreshing without being an “ice torture” experience. There’s also a fish pond on site; for a small fee you can buy food and feed the fish.
Massages are available as well (traditional Thai, oil massage, “hammam”-style treatments). Next door you’ll find a café/restaurant serving food, drinks, and herbal tea — lemon-and-honey tea, green tea, and frappes are especially popular (some people also order beer). Day entry is typically 200–300 THB and includes a towel plus a change of clothes/sarong; lockers are shared.
A few things to note: staff enforce the rules quite strictly, and the tone at the entrance can come across as abrupt. Children may be refused entry. If you’re coming at peak times, it’s best to arrive early.
