The only temple complex of Buddhist temples and pagodas near Karon Beach. It was founded in 1895.
The temple has a beautiful interior based on stories of Thai mythology. A staircase leads to the prayer hall, which is decorated with two snake-like mythical creatures, the Nagi.
The main relic of the temple is a jade statue of the Enlightened One. Black jade is attributed magical properties, it symbolizes cosmic energy, perfection, strength, power and immortality. The walls of the main temple are painted with frescoes dedicated to fateful episodes in the life of Buddha.
Wat Karon is an uncrowded, quiet and soulful place where you can find solitude. On Tuesdays and Fridays, a night market is organized here.
