Phi Phi Island

Home Excursions Phi Phi Island

The Phi Phi Islands tour from Phuket is an exciting journey to one of the most beautiful corners of Southeast Asia, located in Krabi Province. The cost of a Phi Phi tour varies, but this adventure is worth every baht. The island archipelago consists of two main islands — Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh — each renowned for its unique natural beauty and opportunities for relaxation and entertainment.

The Phi Phi Islands excursion begins with tourists departing from Phuket on a comfortable speedboat or ferry. The difference between them is significant — both in travel time and in the level of comfort.

Travel time by speedboat is about 45–50 minutes, so you have more time to spend on the islands themselves. However, it is worth considering that when the sea is rough, the boat can shake quite a lot, and the trip can sometimes feel rather extreme.

The ferry is a calmer and more budget-friendly option. The journey takes about 2 hours, but the trip is much smoother. This option is more often chosen by families with children, people who get seasick, or travelers planning to stay on Phi Phi for one or several nights.

The standard tour price most often includes:

  • transfer from the hotel and back
  • a speedboat trip
  • guide services
  • insurance
  • snorkeling equipment (mask and snorkel)
  • a buffet lunch on the island
  • drinking water on board

The first stop is typically Phi Phi Leh, known for its wild beaches and striking rocky cliffs.

This is where the famous Maya Bay is located, where the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed, and where you can take beautiful photos. It is important to know a few visiting rules:

  • Swimming in Maya Bay is currently prohibited — you can only walk along the beach and take photos.
  • Every year the bay is closed for restoration from August 1 to September 30.
  • The best time to visit is in the morning before 8 AM (early tours allow you to do this).

Next is a visit to Phi Phi Don, where you can explore local attractions, visit viewpoints with panoramic vistas of the archipelago, and stroll through a tropical forest. On Phi Phi Don, tourists enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant offering a wide selection of Thai dishes. After lunch, there’s usually free time for relaxing on the beach, swimming, and snorkeling among coral reefs.

At the end of the day, tour groups return by boat to the starting point, enjoying a magnificent sunset along the way.
