What Are the Similan Islands and What Is the Tour Like?

The Similan Islands are an archipelago of 11 islands and one of Thailand’s most famous marine national parks.

Important: The Similan Islands are closed from May 15 to October 15 due to the monsoon season. During this period, the area is also closed to allow nature to recover.

Most of the islands are uninhabited and closed to permanent accommodation. People come here for the pristine natural beauty rather than developed infrastructure. That is why the Similan Islands have preserved something that has almost disappeared from many popular tourist destinations: a true sense of untouched wilderness.

The main islands included in most tour itineraries are:

  • Ko Miang (Island No. 4) – one of the few islands with a beach area where tours stop for time on the shore.
  • Ko Similan (Island No. 8) – the symbol of the archipelago and its signature landmark, home to the famous Sail Rock viewpoint.
  • Ko Bangu (Island No. 9) – one of the best snorkeling spots, where the crystal-clear water provides exceptional underwater visibility, even several meters below the surface.

You can explore all available tour options in the "All Programs" section.

The Similan Islands offer:

  • crystal-clear water where you can see the seabed even from the boat
  • snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs and schools of tropical fish
  • beaches with soft, almost white sand and virtually no signs of civilization
  • giant granite boulders that resemble natural sculptures
  • panoramic viewpoints overlooking the open sea
  • secluded lagoons and bays accessible only by boat

It is important to understand that the Similan Islands are part of a protected national park. Independent visits are not permitted, and all routes are strictly regulated to preserve the fragile ecosystem.

More About the Programs

Below, you'll find a detailed overview of each available program.

Similans Speedboat

from 2,700 THB | not available for pregnant women | one-day tour
Booking: WhatsApp, Telegram, Max

A day where everything revolves around what truly matters: crystal-clear water, untouched nature, and that unmistakable sense of wonder from the very first moments. Early in the morning, a speedboat takes you to one of Thailand's most stunning archipelagos, with your first stop being a snorkeling session near Island No. 9.

Snorkeling here is an adventure in itself. The visibility is exceptional, the coral reefs are thriving, and you'll be surrounded by dozens of species of tropical fish. Near Island No. 7, you're also likely to encounter sea turtles and colorful clownfish.

Island No. 8 and the hike to Sail Rock offer much more than just a viewpoint. This is the iconic spot where you can take in the entire archipelago at once — dramatic granite boulders, white sandy beaches, and the endless open sea stretching to the horizon, free from hotels and crowds of boats.

After exploring, you'll have time to swim and relax on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Similan Islands.

The tour concludes at Island No. 4, where a Thai lunch and free time await. Take a leisurely walk along the powdery white beach, capture unforgettable photos, enjoy another swim, or simply unwind beneath the shade of tropical trees.

And there's one more thing that's hard to put into words — the way the experience changes throughout the day. One moment you're floating above vibrant coral reefs, the next you're walking along an empty beach, and then you're standing on a granite cliff with views straight out of a movie. All of this happens in a single tour, yet it never feels rushed.

Similans Early Birds

from 2,900 THB | not available for pregnant women | one-day tour
Booking: WhatsApp, Telegram, Max

This tour is for those who are willing to trade a few hours of sleep for a completely different Similan Islands experience. While most boats are only getting ready to depart, you're already on your way to the islands. That means nearly empty beaches, perfectly calm waters, and the soft, golden light of the early morning.

Why wake up at 3:30 a.m.? To see the Similan Islands as they exist only in the first hours of the day — peaceful, uncrowded, and at their most beautiful.

The itinerary is designed to let you spend as much time as possible at the archipelago's best locations before the main wave of visitors arrives.

The first stop is Island No. 4, where you'll enjoy a quiet morning on a pristine white-sand beach. Then you'll cruise past Islands No. 7 and No. 9 before stopping for snorkeling in the open sea. After that comes Island No. 8 — the legendary Similan Island. This is where you'll find the iconic view of dramatic granite boulders, turquoise lagoons, and scenery that feels almost too perfect to be real.

Another advantage of the early departure is returning before the evening fatigue sets in. You get to enjoy a full day of adventure, return to your hotel, and still have the rest of the evening free to spend in Phuket.

Similans Catamaran

from 3,400 THB | not available for pregnant women | one-day tour
Booking: WhatsApp, Telegram, Max

If you'd like to explore the Similan Islands without an ultra-early start, this is the perfect option. There's no 3 a.m. wake-up call and no race to beat the crowds.

The biggest advantage of this tour is the combination of comfort and breathtaking scenery. The catamaran offers a smooth, stable ride with minimal rocking. Why does that matter? Because the journey to the Similan Islands is far longer than a quick 20-minute boat trip, and how you spend that time has a big impact on your overall experience.

The itinerary is designed not to rush you, but to let you fully appreciate each stop. The day begins with snorkeling around Islands No. 5 and No. 6, where you'll discover crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and colorful tropical fish swimming just beneath you. Next comes Island No. 4, where you'll enjoy lunch and have plenty of time to relax on the beach at your own pace. After that, you'll head to the bay near Island No. 9, one of the archipelago's most spectacular snorkeling locations. The grand finale is Island No. 8 and the iconic Sail Rock viewpoint.

Similans Yacht

from 5,000 THB | not available for pregnant women | one-day tour
Booking: WhatsApp, Telegram, Max

If you'd like to experience the Similan Islands in the most comfortable way possible, a yacht tour is the perfect choice. It offers a completely different feel throughout the journey: more space, fewer people, and the freedom to move around and relax.

This isn't just about getting to the islands — it's about truly enjoying your time on the water.

The day begins with a comfortable departure and breakfast at the pier before setting sail. Your Similan adventure starts at Island No. 8, home to the iconic Sail Rock viewpoint. The hike is short, but the panoramic views are unforgettable.

Lunch is served onboard as a buffet, followed by snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters around Island No. 9 and, weather permitting, Island No. 7. Expect outstanding visibility, vibrant coral reefs, and a thriving underwater world — all enjoyed at a relaxed, unhurried pace.

Similans 2 Days

from 8,300 THB | not available for pregnant women | two-day tour
Booking: WhatsApp, Telegram, Max

This is no longer just a tour — it's a mini expedition, complete with an overnight stay on a boat, life at sea, and the feeling of stepping away from everyday reality for a while.

The itinerary is flexible: you can choose the program with or without diving. Either way, you'll spend almost two full days immersed in the Similan Islands experience.

The journey begins like a typical island tour, but soon becomes something entirely different. Your first stop issnorkeling around Islands No. 5 and No. 6, offering a perfect introduction to the crystal-clear waters of the Similan Islands. Next comes Island No. 4, where you'll enjoy a white-sand beach, lunch, and some time to relax before fully settling into life onboard.

After checking into the boat, the main part of the adventure begins. Divers will enjoy a series of dives, while non-divers can explore the same spectacular locations through snorkeling, relax on deck, and enjoy the unique feeling of being completely surrounded by the open sea.

The evening onboard is an experience in itself: a BBQ dinner, warm tropical air, the endless ocean, and great company.

On the second day, divers continue with more dives, followed by lunch onboard and the return to Island No. 8. The journey ends with a hike to the famous Sail Rock viewpoint — a breathtaking panorama that provides the perfect finale to this unforgettable adventure.
