Question

Can you bring a drone into Thailand?

Insider's Response

Yes, you can, but there are some important details to keep in mind:

  • Drone registration is required with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) if the drone has a camera. The registration process takes 20 minutes to an hour. Here’s the location of the NBTC office in Phuket: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Mhgc7wuYMNnPTPEEA
  • To register, prepare in advance: a copy of your passport, visa, and departure card, proof of accommodation (hotel booking or rental contract), photos of your drone from all sides with the serial number, and photos of the controller with its serial number.
  • For commercial filming, you need approval from CAAT (Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand).
  • Follow the flight regulations: do not fly over people, near airports, or government buildings.
  • When bringing batteries, be aware of the limits on lithium-ion batteries in carry-on luggage.
