Question

Can you ride a motorbike in Phuket without a Russian driver’s license? And what are the consequences?

Insider's Response

To legally ride a motorbike in Phuket, you need an international driver’s license with category A (or B if the bike is under 50cc). If you only have a Russian license without an international version, it is officially invalid. If the police stop you, the fine is usually around 500 THB, but in case of an accident, the consequences can be more serious — insurance may not cover your expenses. Additionally, you’ll have to pay for damages to the rental bike out of pocket. Don’t forget about personal insurance either. Medical care in Thailand is expensive, so it’s best to be prepared in advance.
