How long does it take to get from Phuket to Khao Lak?

Khao Lak is located in Phang Nga Province. It consists of several villages, and the coastline stretches for 25 kilometers. The place is becoming popular thanks to its beautiful nature, calm atmosphere, and small number of tourists compared to Phuket. The resort is covered with dense forests and surrounded by cliffs.

The area is about 2,170 square kilometers, with a population of only about 20,000 people. It is definitely worth coming here for a leisurely holiday in nature, and for that there is all the necessary infrastructure: beaches, hiking trails in the National Park, kayaking, and other exciting activities.

Khao Lak is located 80 km north of Phuket. How long it takes to get from Phuket to Khao Lak depends on the type of transport you choose and the starting point of your route.

Taxi. It is more convenient to get to Khao Lak from the north of the island; from the airport, the distance is about 75 km, and the trip by taxi will take only 1–1.5 hours. You can order a taxi to the airport, and you can see which apps work in Phuket here. The cost of the trip will be about 1,800–2,000 baht.

If you are traveling from the center of the island, for example from Phuket Town, the route length will already be 110 km, and accordingly, the taxi will cost more.

Bus. It is much cheaper to get to Khao Lak by bus. They depart from Bus Terminal 2 in Phuket Town, location link. From there, transport of different comfort levels departs – from regular large intercity buses to VIP class. The buses make stops along the route, so it is not necessary to go to Phuket Town if you are in another part of the island. The ticket price will depend on the station where you board. The average price is about 150–200 baht. The trip will take from 2 to 4 hours, depending on which station you depart from.
