Which beaches in Phuket are suitable for people who don’t swim well? With a gentle entry and no strong waves.
Insider's Response
If you don’t swim well or are traveling with young children, it’s best to choose beaches with a gentle entry into the water, minimal waves, and safe, shallow depths near the shore. It’s also important that lifeguards are on duty, so it’s better to avoid “wild” or undeveloped beaches.
The following beaches in Phuket best meet these conditions:
- Kata Beach
A beach with an easy, gradual entry into the sea and a long shoreline. Waves appear only on particularly windy days. - Karon Beach
Especially the central part of the beach. Closer to the southern end, the water gets deep more quickly. - Bang Tao Beach
The area near Laguna is especially safe, with a gently sloping shoreline that stays shallow for a long distance. - Surin Beach
The northern part of the beach is the most comfortable and safe area for swimming. - Nai Harn Beach
A beach with very clean water, a smooth shoreline, and a soft seabed. - Panwa Beach
A calm beach in a bay where waves are almost nonexistent.
A few tips for non-swimmers:
● Always pay attention to the flags posted on the beach. Your guide is the green flag. To learn what the other flags mean, check out this article.
● Avoid entering the water where there are large waves, even in shallow areas.
● The safest time for swimming is in the morning before 11:00 AM, when the sun is not too strong and the sea is usually calm.
