NEO Phuket (Ao Por Viewpoint) is a lookout on Phuket’s east coast, set on a high headland that juts out into the sea. From here you get sweeping panoramic views over the bay and the nearby islands — the horizon stretches far into the distance, and in some spots the view feels almost 360 degrees. It’s a great place for a quick stop for photos and selfies or a quiet moment to take in the scenery, especially at sunrise.
The access road is paved, but the ascent and descent are noticeably steep — something you’ll feel both behind the wheel and on foot. There’s space to park at the top, and an observation deck/pavilion has been built near the cliff edge. You can still reach the viewpoint in rainy weather, but it’s worth factoring in the distance and allowing extra travel time.
What really sets this place apart is its seclusion. It’s usually uncrowded, with plenty of open space where you can lay out a picnic and take a break from the road; some visitors even bring tents. Facilities, however, are virtually non-existent — no toilets, shops, or services — so it’s best to bring your own water and snacks.
Nearby you’ll also notice remnants of abandoned development: a partially ruined hotel and sections of an old road. Parts of the area can feel neglected, with tall grass and occasional litter, and one of the pavilions is sometimes closed. In the evening and at night, mosquitoes can be a nuisance, so insect repellent is a good idea.
