Baba IKI is a Japanese restaurant at the Sri Panwa hotel in Phuket. Set within a gated resort, it feels genuinely private: the distance from the city and the absence of noise create a calm, almost intimate pace for the evening. It’s especially easy to enjoy the quiet once most guests drift up to the rooftop bars.
The star of the experience is the sea-and-sunset view. The panorama is visible from nearly everywhere, and on clear nights the horizon feels like part of the décor. The space is spotless and well maintained; table settings and plating are polished, and the service is attentive and professional. On some evenings there’s live singing, which adds a “special occasion” mood without being over the top.
The menu leans on Japanese classics — sashimi, rolls, steaks, unagi rice, and poke — along with omakase and teppanyaki, where seafood such as scallops and large prawns tends to shine. Omakase should be booked at least a day in advance; it’s around 5,800 THB including taxes, with drinks charged separately. Sake is available.
Prices are noticeably above average and largely reflect the location and the view (for example, a 0.3L Asahi is 350 THB). The menu isn’t extensive, and a few items may feel less impressive than expected: desserts can be inconsistent, and small details — like cutlery not being in perfect condition — occasionally slip through. Still, the strongest dishes — salmon sashimi and rolls, unagi rice, and the seafood — come together into a cohesive impression of a place made for a beautiful, unhurried evening.
