BARTELS Chalong in Phuket is a cozy European-style spot for breakfast and brunch — the kind of place where it’s easy to linger a little longer. Expect a warm interior, a calm vibe, neat presentation, and quick service from the kitchen.
The menu is built around their signature sourdough, used for generously filled sandwiches and toasts that go well beyond the usual basics. Popular choices include the Tuna Melt and Pesto Tuna, grilled chicken or beef sandwiches, egg-and-avocado options, and a salmon-and-avocado toast. If you’re after something hearty, go for the Turkish Eggs; if you prefer something lighter, there are salads and health-focused items, including berry bowls. The pastries are a highlight too: cherry and raspberry croissants come out crisp on the outside and soft inside, with a rich filling that isn’t overly sweet. You can also buy their bread to take away — they bake it in-house.
The coffee and cold brew deserve a special mention: the baristas consistently deliver, and the cold coffee mixed with coconut water is an unusual but genuinely refreshing combination. Fruit juices and other drinks are available as well.
There’s seating both indoors and outdoors, and the outdoor area is pet-friendly. Prices are on the higher end for the neighborhood, but ingredient quality is one of the café’s strengths. On rare occasions, service can be a bit inconsistent, and smoke can sometimes be an issue at the outdoor tables — worth keeping in mind when choosing where to sit. The café closes at 6:00 PM.
