Kata Beach Viewpoint in Phuket sits at a high spot on the road up to the Big Buddha, where the lookout is essentially part of a small roadside café. From here you get a sweeping panorama of the island’s west coast: the bays of Kata and Karon, lush green hills and pockets of town below — and on clear days you can even see toward Patong. It’s an especially good place for sunset, when the sea and mountains are lit with soft, warm light and photos look particularly striking.
It’s an easy stop to make “on the way.” There’s parking for both scooters and cars, plenty of seating, and you can grab a coffee, coconut water, or a smoothie — many people go for the fresh pineapple blend. The menu leans toward straightforward meals, and classic Thai options are usually a safe bet: tom kha gai, chicken green curry with rice, and vegetarian spring rolls. Despite the elevated location, prices are generally reasonable, the staff are typically friendly, and the restroom is kept clean.
Wildlife adds to the experience: monkeys sometimes show up nearby, and there are also photo opportunities with birds of prey. That said, it can get crowded at peak times, which makes relaxed photography harder, and some of the view is partially blocked by trees in places. For a quick bite up here, it’s best to stick to familiar Thai dishes and simple drinks — and avoid feeding or approaching the monkeys.
