An island in the shape of…a chicken’s head. Yes, the rock formations resemble the outline of a beak with a comb, and thanks to this, the place has become especially popular. However, it’s worth coming here not only for the amusing natural attraction, but also for the feeling of privacy and seclusion. The size of Ko Kai is only 600×1000 meters – you can imagine that it’s your private island.
Despite the poorly developed infrastructure (there’s only a small cafe and boat food vendors near the shores), there are things to do on the island. For example, you can walk through the wild jungle and even meet monkeys (be careful with them!) or go snorkeling surrounded by beautiful coral reefs and schools of tropical fish.
From Ko Kai extends a sandy spit, along which you can walk to two neighboring islands of the archipelago. It’s more convenient to walk during low tide, but high tide won’t interfere with your journey either, and the spit will only be slightly covered with water.
How to get to Ko Kai: by boat with fellow travelers when there are enough of them (usually 8 people). Boats depart from Chao Fa pier in Krabi or from the beaches of Ao Nang and Railay. You can also reach the island by speedboat, which departs from Phuket piers.
