Le Panier Gourmand
Le Panier Gourmand in Phuket is an intimate spot serving home-style French cooking with an unmistakable bistro feel — focused on flavor, honest ingredients, and careful technique. It’s easy to slip into a “little France” mood here: a warm, lively dining room, unhurried table conversations, and genuinely attentive hospitality. The owner, Marc, is often on the floor himself, keeping a close eye on both the kitchen and the service.
The menu leans on the classics: an excellent cordon bleu, beef in several versions (from steaks to tartare), boeuf bourguignon, roast beef with crudités, choucroute, and potato gratin. Portions are generous — quiches can easily be shared — and the meat comes with well-chosen sides: their well-known house fries and a family-recipe mayonnaise, plus sauces like pepper sauce or Roquefort. There’s also a solid wine selection.
Another standout is the deli counter and take-away. You can pick up cured meats, ready-made dishes, or order a festive set — oysters, lobster, fresh vegetables, and sauces — presented with real care.
This is a daytime-only place with limited seating; it doesn’t open in the evening, and by lunchtime the small room (just a handful of tables) fills up quickly. Prices are closer to European levels, and the amount of fried food may feel a bit heavy if you haven’t had this style of meal in a while. For dessert, people go for the chocolate éclair, Paris–Brest, or chocolate mousse — and the display case looks so tempting it’s hard to stop at just one.
