“Podsolnukh” is a small Russian restaurant in Phuket with an intimate dining room of about six tables and a tidy, homey, calm atmosphere. The place is generally well kept, and the air-conditioning is comfortable rather than “freezing,” though it can feel a bit stuffy during the hottest hours. At times, overly loud music or a strong incense scent may be distracting.
The main draw is straightforward, home-style Russian food with no Thai-style adaptations. The menu features borscht, okroshka, solyanka, chicken soup and meatball soup, dumplings (including a version served in broth), potato pancakes (draniki), beef stroganoff, cutlets with mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, salted pork fat (salo) with garlic and onion, pickles and lightly salted cucumbers, salads, kompot, and cranberry mors. Tea service is a nice touch: tea comes with lemon, honey, and sweets. Overall, the flavors feel familiar and “just like at home,” though a few dishes may be overly salty or a bit too oily.
Ordering is easy: you can place an order via the website/QR code or WhatsApp, and payment is possible in rubles, including with a Russian bank card. Service can be slow at times — some dishes take 25–50 minutes to prepare. Portion sizes also vary a lot, from very generous to fairly modest, so it can make sense to order a little extra.
Most of the staff are Thai, which can occasionally make communication in Russian or English tricky, and the pace of service isn’t always consistent. This restaurant is best suited for anyone craving familiar comfort food and genuinely Russian flavors, including kid-friendly options and lighter soups.
