Rattanalee is a small, unpretentious café in the Panwa area of Phuket, right by the Pullman hotel. It’s a good spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner: it sits along the main road, yet the atmosphere is fairly calm, and there are pleasant balcony tables to sit at.
The focus here is authentic Thai home-style cooking with a clear, easy-to-navigate menu. Food comes out quickly, portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and satisfying. Standout dishes include Pad Thai and Pad See Ew, Tom Yum Goong, green curry, massaman, and a range of salads (including mango salad and chicken salad), plus spring rolls, satay, and pineapple fried rice. The fish is served fresh, though it’s sometimes cooked a bit more well-done than you might expect. A few items — such as pumpkin cream soup or certain beef dishes — can feel more straightforward and less memorable.
One of the biggest advantages is the combination of fair prices and large portions: a dinner for two with drinks can be surprisingly affordable for Phuket. The drinks menu includes cocktails like mojitos, daiquiris, and a Blue Lagoon, and you can also order coconut water served straight from the coconut.
Service is warm and attentive, and the staff are happy to adjust spice levels and accommodate special requests. The dining area is clean, and the restroom is well kept. Practical notes: they accept cash only, and there may occasionally be a local cat hanging around nearby, which not everyone will appreciate.
