Wat Mani Sri Mahathat is a temple complex in Phuket, right by the roadside on the route toward Phang Nga. It’s easy to spot from the highway thanks to the towering statue of Luang Pho Klai at the entrance, which immediately sets the scale of the place.

Once inside, the traffic noise fades away. The grounds feel calm and open — ideal for a slow stroll or a short break during a drive. The buildings are richly decorated with ornate patterns and floral details, and you’ll also find a small chapel and sculptures of revered monks nearby. At the heart of the complex stands a large seated monk statue, where visitors light candles and incense and offer prayers for family well‑being and a peaceful life.
A highlight is the wax museum of monks. The figures are so lifelike they can look almost real. Foreign visitors pay an admission fee (50 baht), while entry is free for Thai nationals. There is parking on site, and a dress code applies: shoulders and knees must be covered. Photography and video recording are not allowed inside the rooms with the wax figures.
The temple is also used for quiet family rituals — for example, releasing fish and frogs into the water near the complex. During renovation work, some areas may be closed, and a few parts may feel a bit worn, so it’s best to treat Wat Mani Sri Mahathat as a peaceful stop along the way rather than a long, planned visit.
