Mongkhon Wararam Temple, better known as Wat Nai Yang, is one of the oldest temples in the northern part of Phuket, located just a few minutes from Nai Yang Beach. The temple was founded in 1757.
The temple grounds are quite spacious and well maintained. They feature a traditional ubosot with a two-tiered roof and mural paintings, an open sermon hall, monks’ residential quarters, and a shrine housing a white reclining Buddha statue. Some of the buildings are decorated with mirror mosaics that sparkle beautifully in the sunlight.
An important figure in the temple’s history is Luang Pho Nang Suea, a revered monk and former abbot, whom local residents and pilgrims still visit to receive blessings.
Wat Nai Yang is not among Phuket’s most famous attractions, so it is usually peaceful and uncrowded. Visitors can encounter monks, observe the daily life of the temple, stroll along shaded pathways, and take a break from the tourist crowds. Religious services and meditation sessions are also held here regularly.
The temple is located just 500 meters from Nai Yang Beach and makes a worthwhile stop during a walk around the area or before a flight from the airport, which is only a few minutes away by car.
