Phuket in Brief

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, covering more than 540 km². Today, it is best known for its beaches and resorts, but beyond the tourist areas lies a completely different side of the island. Few people know that Phuket’s past is closely connected with maritime trade and tin mining.

For many years, tin was one of Phuket’s main sources of wealth. Mining attracted traders and settlers from different countries, and their influence can still be seen in the architecture of Phuket Town. Today, the old Sino-Portuguese buildings are one of the main features of the historic center.

The tour allows you to discover these different sides of Phuket in one day: from Buddhist shrines to historic neighborhoods and museums dedicated to the island’s past.

The morning will begin with one of Phuket’s most recognizable landmarks – the Big Buddha (there is a video at the link). The 45-meter statue stands on top of a hill, so visitors come here not only to see the shrine itself but also to enjoy panoramic views over the southern part of the island.

The next stop is Wat Chalong (there is a video at the link), Phuket’s most famous Buddhist temple complex. It is an important place for local residents and one of the landmarks worth seeing on your first trip to the island.

The temple is active, so don’t forget the dress code: shoulders and knees must be covered.

After visiting the temples, you will head to Phuket Old Town (there is a video at the link). The atmosphere here is completely different: instead of beaches and resort streets, you’ll find historic buildings, narrow streets, colorful facades, and distinctive Sino-Portuguese architecture. During the walk, your guide will explain how the historic center developed and what role trade played in its growth.

After lunch, your journey through the island’s history will continue at the Phuket Mining Museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the period when Phuket was one of the region’s important centers of tin mining. You will learn how the industry developed, who came to the island in search of work, and how this period influenced Phuket’s further development.

The final stop will be the Thalang National Museum. Its exhibitions tell the story of Phuket’s early history and the events connected with the island’s defense during the Burmese invasion. A special place in this history is devoted to the Heroines of Thalang, who led the resistance.

The price includes everything you need for a comfortable private journey: a private car with a licensed driver, a personal guide, and insurance. The itinerary follows a convenient schedule tailored to you, with no group and no need to follow someone else’s timetable.

In just one day, the tour reveals a completely different side of Phuket – a place with centuries of history, a blend of cultures, and its own historical heroes.
