Ikigai Japanese Restaurant Karon is a small Japanese spot on the second floor in the Karon area. The space is compact but welcoming: a neat Japanese-style interior, comfortable seating, strong air-conditioning (a real relief after the beach), a clean restroom, and an easy-to-use elevator. Scenic corners and an open rooftop area add to the experience.
The menu is built around fresh fish and careful presentation. Their sashimi is especially good — salmon and yellowtail stand out — while the salmon and eel nigiri are delicate and well-balanced. Rolls are put together with a clean, even flavor profile: real wasabi, well-matched sauces, and nothing overly heavy. The Ebi Tempura Roll and Unagi Roll deserve a special mention, and shrimp dishes in general are bold and juicy here. It’s not just sushi, either — ramen, udon, and poke make it a solid choice for a full dinner.
Service is polite and attentive; the staff are happy to help you choose and explain the dishes clearly. In the evening the restaurant often fills up, so you may wait around 30–40 minutes, as everything is cooked to order. Prices are reasonable for Karon, and the small, focused menu helps them keep quality consistent.
